Malindi Conservation Project
1. Project name: Malindi Conservation Project, Kenya.
2. Background
This project is located lush area in Malindi at the Kenya coast. This new project has been started by the ocean-side based Fort Jesus and Malindi Museums to preserve natural history promote nature conservation and support local community. It’s an interesting opportunity open, and welcoming everyone with the love or interest working in the field of history, natural sciences, biodiversity (plants and animals: birds, etc), maritime science, archaeology, architecture, curation, community mobilisation, eco tourism, range management, environment etc.
The project urgently needs group and individual volunteers, who will be actively, assist in the programme work. The participants will also benefit through field practical learning, beach holidaying and inter-cultural experiences. You can volunteer from February, any time [from or either 2, 3 weeks, a month or more] till December 2009. There is possibility the project may continue into the year 2010, depending on the progress and impact made - by then.
3. Nature of work
a) Study the type of plants and types of animals in the area,
b) Interact with the community, to extract the history of the lake,
c) Explore how this conservation project can benefit the community,
d) Conduct archaeology work to dig-out important information,
e) Help in developing new nature and historical conservation programmes,
f) Preserving historical art-facts and monuments for museum,
g) Research, exhibitions and museum displays and tour-guiding – among others,
h) There is an option to visit-serve at the museums as integral part of the project work
4. Accommodation
The volunteers will stay in a house at the project site.
5. Programme Fee in Euros: Two weeks 200, 250 three weeks, and 210 for every month.
